I am so pissed off at this news right now.
First off Robotech has not been in china for 20 years.
It got into china with a chinese version only in early 2000s.
Previous releases were bootlegs.

What you said is not ture.
Robotech first aired in China at 1991.
And Robotech novels were released in China offically at 2003-2005.
Then Robotech TV series DVDs were released in China offically at 2003-2006.
Robotech TSC DVD was released in China offically at 2007-2008.
And Shantou University Press got rights of Robotech comics from DC Comics at 2008.
So that's why China is able to release these comics though WS was closed by DC comics.
All previous releases were legal!!!!

Others of us here miss out.
But what I find funny is that there would be others that would complain if this was released in english because it doesnt really present anything new and HG is full of it etc

We had Robotech:Untold Story on VHS, and Robotech II:The Sentinels on separate DVD with art bonuses in Europe. HG has always given us non-N.A fans good stuff. You guys got the DVD box sets before us, feel special!

Fact: Hong Kong was not part of China until the late 90s.

Robotech first aired in China at 1991.

link for proof?
I know it was in HK and Taiwan which were, as of 1991, not part of China. Taiwan Robotech products from the late 90s were long regarded as bootleg too. Then Robotech TV series DVDs were released in China offically at 2003-2006.

2003 (early 2000s, like i said) was also when Robotech was broadcast in China under official license from HG.

What's the proof?
It's so funny!
The proof is
I am from China.
I first watched Robotech at 1991 by Shanghai TV Station under official license from HG.

Fact. Only three out of 8(at least 8 I could remember) TV channels were British. Robotech was on neither of them.
Herobot. I wouldn't worry about it. I smell a cultural '1956' type of vibe in here now.

The box art seems very nice and also the way you can have your comics arranged so neatly.
Just like the Chinese market gave a big push to the possibility of having a new Astroboy CG movie (good box office results there), it could also do the same for the Robotech franchise.

TO BAD U.S.A. MARKET CAN'T GET DC COMICS TO PUSH ROBOTECH LIKE CHINA DOES.
HOPE HG MOVES TO ANOTHER PUBLISHER LIKE DARK HORSE COMICS FOR THE ROBOTECH SERIES AND FINALLY RELEASING THE EXTRA WORKS.

Why would HG have to go to Dark Horse or another indie comic co? The 'relationship' between HG and WB is so solid, that DC should be putting out all of the Robo-Tech reissues.

Why would HG have to go to Dark Horse or another indie comic co? The 'relationship' between HG and WB is so solid, that DC should be putting out all of the Robo-Tech reissues.

SIMPLE
THE RELATIONSHIP IS FOR THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE. WB HAS NO CONTROL OF HG LICENSE THAT DEAL WITH THE 85 EPISODES AND PRODUCTION OF THEM.
WB IS INTERESTED IN THE LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH AND ANY MERCHANDISING COMING OUT OF THAT.
AS WE KNOW NOW, DC IS NOT INTERESTED IN THE 85 EPISODE COMICS. WHY THEY DROPPED THE TPB. IF THE LICENSE EXPIRE FROM WHAT DC KEPT FROM WILDSTORM THEN HG CAN FIND ANOTHER PUBLISHER.
TAKE TOYNAMI FOR EXAMPLE... THEY STILL MAKING ROBOTECH RELATED TOYS DEALING WITH THE 85 EPISODES. AND THE LICENSE ONLY COVERS THAT.
WB WILL GO WITH THEIR OWN DEALS FOR THE LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH MOVIE TOYS, COMICS RELATED TO THE LIVE ACTION, ETC. ETC.
LICENSES IP RIGHTS FOR THE 85 EPISODES AND LIVE ACTION MOVIE ARE 2 DIFFERENT ANIMALS.
HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE FOR YOU.

Did NO ONE notice this thread was started on April 1st?
With the lack of these kinds of updates on US products, which I'm fairly certain is HG's primary revenue market AND with the liscences for the comics being with WildStorm (not DC directly) I'm pretty certain this was all an elaborate hoax...

That happens to be a very big coincidence, Love & War's TPB getting exclusive release in China has been well known for roughly 6 months now, this isn't false news.

I first watched Robotech at 1991 by Shanghai TV Station under official license from HG.

And im sure the video tapes from the 90s and VCDs from before 2003 were on "offical license" as well?
Dont anyone get how weird this sounds??
Its like if Hong Kong Suddenly announced that "Feng Yun"(Stormriders) will only be re-printed in Malay.
